We would like to apologise to our clients who may have experienced disruption through the unfortunate incident that took place at the end of last year.
An unexpected end to the year
In December 2018, due to a particularly vicious cyber-attack, Horton Automatics and our parent company (to safeguard itself and its customers) had to shut down its computer systems.
A forensic investigation was launched by us and third-party contractors. It was confirmed that it was only our systems that had been affected and the issues had thankfully, not migrated to the outside world.
Because they were linked to the US servers, much of the rebuilding process had to be done remotely. This naturally, impacted the timeline.
Enhancing our systems’ protection
Our UK IT support has been working closely with their US counterparts and the rebuild process has now been completed.
Going forward, we have been working closely with various IT security contractors because we would like to significantly enhance our systems’ protection. With the type of severity that was caused by this incident, it was inevitable that our service and communication levels would suffer.
We would like to apologise for any disruption that may have been experienced during this incident. We would also like to say how thankful we are to our customers and suppliers for their support and understanding during this frustrating time.
A goodbye and a hello
On a different note, our Service Manager Stuart Pugh retired in October 2018 after spending 30 years in the technical service and service management industry. We are sad to see Stuart leave as he will be missed but we wish him a happy retirement.
Stuart has now been replaced by our new Service Manager, Gibb Walker who we welcomed to the Horton Automatics’ team in February 2019. Gibb is a qualified electro-mechanical engineer with a degree in Business Administration and has over 19 years of experience in service and facilities management.
Although we’ve had an unexpected start to the working year, we are eager to get back to providing a normal working service. We’re currently working on some exciting projects and look forward to continuing to deliver the best service possible to our clients.
